The iLuv Wavecast is a new compact Bluetooth speaker with a surprisingly impressive full range of sound. This tiny little bugger is very light (0.68 lbs) and portable. Equipped with dual speakers feature that feature jAura® sound technology and a bass radiator, even at loud volumes the sound quality is pretty legit. Extremely easy to travel and camp with, I recently brought mine to Firefly Music Festival and used it with great success. All my friends were raving about the clean, sleek, and modern design.
Wavecast is very simple to pair with your phone or tablet via Bluetooth. Pairing is as simple as three basic steps: turn the speaker on, press the Bluetooth button, and sync with your device to stream music wirelessly. If your device is not Bluetooth enabled, or if internet connectivity is hiding from you, just use the 3.5mm aux input to connect the device directly to your phone or iPod.
The speaker comes in blue, black, white, or pink. Hot pink, it would seem, is wildly popular and quite difficult to find. The iLuv representation that I spoke with told me they cannot keep enough in stock. A rechargeable lithiu
m-ion battery will provide up to four hours of play, which is not enough for a whole camping weekend. I would recommend bringing a car charger device or a fully charged power brick.
Unfortunately, the USB connection cable is way too short. You will need to set the speaker on the floor or a window sill near an outlet. Also, I was surprised a wall plug or USB block port for an outlet was not included. Just use the one for your iPhone, or charge the speaker from a USB port in a computer.
In general the iLuv Creative Technology folks rarely disappoint. They seem to make excellently balanced price versus quality products for the average consumers. Sure the speakers do not sound like you spent $200 on them, but to be fair neither do Beats by Dre (sorry Doctor, we respect you/your brand more then your audio products). For a price around $50, the iLuv Wavecast is a great buy for those who want a ultra-portable entry level speaker.
