This morning Facebook officially debuted the latest version of its iOS app. The full version upgrade (to 5.0) is a completely new app, “rebuilt from the ground up”. According to Facebook’s Newsroom release, the app loads twice as fast as prior versions, and is also much faster during usage.
New status updates load much more quickly as well, and there is a new banner feature that keeps track of new, unloaded updates in real time. The team at Facebook also states that photos load much faster.
I just downloaded the new Facebook iOS app for my iPhone, and even after just 30 seconds of usage I could tell that it really is a lot faster. The main news feed section design has been retooled to be sleeker, with the color icons for the famous “Status”, “Photo” and “Check-In” buttons replaced with more minimal two-tone images. It’s also a bit more animated, as a cool sequence occurs when you “like” a post.
Check out a screenshot I took from my iPhone – perfect timing with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg posting an update on his own Facebook profile page.
If you have an iOS device, I definitely recommend you updating to the 5.0 version of the Facebook app. Just load the App Store and it will automatically pop up as an update.
