Although E3 and Computex Taipei are the center of everyone’s attention right now, there’s always time for a choice bit of Apple rumor. In this case, the specifications of the upcoming 13″ MacBook Pro refresh have allegedly been leaked by Chinese news forum weiphone.com. Notably, these specs seem to contradict prior rumors that the upcoming MacBooks would have high-resolution Retina displays; the 13.3″ LED screen bears a more pedestrian 1280×800 resolution. The inclusion of Intel HD 4000 graphics indicates that Apple will be updating their laptops to include Intel’s new Ivy Bridge processors, which should provide both improved graphical performance and lower power consumption. The Apple/Intel partnership continues with a Thunderbolt port, but Apple has also elected to include a pair of USB 3.0 ports, most likely for the sake of widespread compatibility.
All in all, then, the refreshed MacBook Pros look far more evolutionary than revolutionary. The upgrades, at least according to this leak, are all logical progressions. The lack of an ultra-dense Retina-branded display may be a disappointment to some (or many), but keep in mind that these rumors are currently just that and have not yet been validated by any official statements. Given that WWDC is next week, though, we shouldn’t have to wait long for Apple to come clean.
