How To Jailbreak iPhone 4S and iPad 2

It’s finally here! The jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 is available for download. Users can now free themselves from Apple’s grasp and enjoy their A5 devices as they wish.

The software is called GreenPois0n Absinthe and as the iOS hacking groups, Chronic Dev Team noted, uses a “ridiculously complex combination of exploits-within-exploits” to jailbreak Apple devices running on the A5 chip.

“The endless war we fight to jailbreak has become more and more difficult with each new device released, and our recent battle against A5 only proved this further,” Chronic Dev Team said in a blog post on Friday.

Hackers from the Chronic Dev Team, the leader of which goes by the alias “p0sixninja”, collaborated with researchers from the iPhone Dev Team including “MuscleNerd” and “Surik” to create an iOS-hacking “dream team” of sorts. The project even drew in other iOS researchers such as “planetbeing” due to the difficulty of hacking the A5 devices.

“The blog post goes on to admit that “the escalated obstacles presented by Apple’s new A5 processor would not likely be overcome by one individual or team — but all together, we should be more than able to conquer any challenges encountered.”

The jailbreak comes almost a year (10 months) after Apple released the iPad 2 in March of 2011. A long time to wait.

The Chronic Dev team had limited success when first tackiling the problem, so they launched a tool called CDevReporter designed to collate crash reports to let the team find holes in the iOS operating system. And they seem to have done a pretty good job.

Many people have been opting into jailbreaking, or hacking, their iOS devices because Apple doesn’t allow its customers to use non-Apple-approved apps. And while jailbreaking your iPhone or iPad does have benefits it does come at a price. While not illegal, jailbreaking your device will void your warranty. It also leaves the device susceptible to hostile software which masquerades as a friendly app but that could leave the device unusable. But after these risks, unlocking your iOS device grants you the ability to build and run software from alternative sources and the ability to copy files of your choice without having to agree with the iTunes end-user agreement.

So should you jailbreak your device? Well it really comes down to what you want to do with the device. If you like to play around with your iPhone or iPad and don’t like to be limited by Apple’s App Store, then unlock your device. But if you haven’t experienced any issues in not being able to find the app you want and you like/use iTunes, then it might be best just to stick with what Apple has crafted. The jailbreak just gives consumers more opportunities and a diversified way to use the massively successful devices running on the A5 chip (iPhone 4S and iPad 2).

Step by Step to Jailbreak iPhone 4S and iPad 2

First you need to download CLI 0.4.3 or later version, then extract it to the root of your hard drive, then a user willing to hack the device needs to connect his or her device to the computer on which the user has downloaded CLI 0.4.3 or later version. Later he or she needs to go to “Start” menu and search for “cmd” and then select as administrator. Then he needs to execute “cinject_0.4.3? in order to download the directory of the cinject_0.4.3 folder.

Now you need to write “cinject -i payloads/jailbreak.mobileconfig” and execute this command. It will cause Install Profile to appear on your A5 devices. You will be required to press “Install” followed by ‘Install Now’. Now you will come across a page that will show ‘Enter Password’, please just press next. Now write in “cinject -j payloads” and “cinject -w”, respectively, and execute these commands. Now go to setting on your iPad 2 or Phone 4S, Network > VPN, toggle VPN setting on. Here “A configuration error occurred’ will appear. Your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 will reboot and Cydia icon will appear there.

And there you have it. You are now the proud owner of a jailbroken iPhne 4S or iPad 2. Go forth and conquer!
