Back when De Blob was released on the Wii and Nintendo DS in 2009 it garnered positive reviews and raced to cult classic status. The game's combination of creative gameplay mechanics and intersting soundtrack brought it accliam for gamers craving innovation in the industry. Thus, after a sequel was alluded to earlier this year in a conference call, it was only a matter of time until the official announcement came out.
The game will not just be appearing on the Wii and DS this time though, as it will be coming to all consoles in this iteration. In the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii versions of De Blob 2, players will fight back against Comrade Black after he takes control of the city and attempts to drain the color from it. As everyone's favorite blob moves through Plasma City, he will be joined by a new sidekick: Pinky. The two of them will work together to disarm traps and complete new sidequests which will allow de Blob to upgrade his abilities. All of this will be available over cooperative, single player and adversarial multiplayer modes.
The DS version will bring players 2D sidescrolling action as de Blob attempts to escape Dr. Von Blot's laboratory where he is conducting experiments to create a new type of mutated ink. de Blob will have to use new abilities including wall jumps, slingshots, and wall sticking in order to gain his freedom.
All versions of the game will be launching in February 2011.
