There is absolutely no doubt that the Call of Duty franchise is the biggest franchise which spans all consoles at this point no matter how you define it. You could look at sales, advertising budget, or the number of players who play online and still come to this conclusion. The series' preeminence in the shooter genre was furthered today with the announcement that the official soundtrack will also be released separately from the game.
The album, which is composed by Sean Murray (of Call of Duty: World At War fame), will be released alongside the Black Ops on November 9th. It will be available for download online either for $11.99 for the whole album, or $.99 per song. This isn't something which occurs very often (the last one I remember is Martin O'Donnell's excellent Halo scores) but it is certainly a welcome addition to any video game launch, especially for music fans.
Call of Duty: Black Ops will release on Ps3, Xbox 360, PC, and Wii this November 9th.
