Activision To Start Charging For MW2 Multiplayer (UPDATE) July 19, 2010 0

For the past few days there has been a lot of discussion on the Internet about the possibility of charging players an additional fee to pay games, with most of the focus being on MW2.  These rumors were only further fanned when a user on the 360junkies forums claimed that he had been confronted with a screen that presented him with the need to buy a membership.  After some suspicion about the validity of this statement, the user, named PwnShop has uploaded a video to support his claim.

Pwnshop's initial post stated "I was trying to join a friend's session on MW2 the other day and had this screen pop up. It clearly says at the top of this menu: "Modern Warfare 2 Membersh", in which we can confidently assume that the last word is "Memberships". If you'll notice at the bottom is an option to "Add Microsoft Points", clearly indicating that this was intended to be a menu for purchasing different levels of Membership, presumably memberships would have been offered in a variety of durations."

Just recently, the post was then edited with this video:

Of course, nothing official has been announced and this could all be one gamer's axe to grind with Activision.  For now that means this gets filed in the "lame rumor" category.

UPDATE: Activision has cleared things up, it appears that what PwnShop experienced was a glitch and no one will have to start paying for CoD multiplayer for the forseeable future. Check out the full story straight from the horses' mouth here.
