Although we weren't able to get a preview of it, Dead Space 2 was one of the hottest titles from this year's E3. It was even impressive enough to net awards from some of the biggest names around, including a 'Best Xbox 360 Game' award from Gamespot. The space-horror title has continued this buzz coming out of E3 with the announcement today that EA will be producing a prequel for Dead Space 2 titled Dead Space Ignition.
Dead Space Ignition will be a comic-book style game written by Anthony Johnson, the same man who wrote the original six-book Dead Space comic book series. In Ignition ,players can engage in three different hacking mini-games: Hardware Crack, Trace Route and System Override. As players complete these arcade-style games they will move along a 'Create Your Own Adventure' type storyline, ultimately resulting in one of four endings. Each ending will come with unlockables which can be used in Dead Space 2.
Speaking about the prequel, Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer of the Dead Space franchise stated “Dead Space Ignition is the first of many exciting game extensions we have planned for the launch of Dead Space 2” moreover, “The interactive comic-style game will give Dead Space fans a unique perspective on the events leading up to Dead Space 2, and will also introduce the storyline to a brand-new audience of gamers.”
No word on the price yet, but be on the lookout for Dead Space Ignition to launch in fall 2010 and Deep Space 2 to launch on January 25th 2011 on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC
