LimeWire Sued for $72,000,000,000,000

The RIAA has done it again. Half a year after a judge ordered that LimeWire must disable its filesharing service. Since then, it has filed a claim to $72 trillion in statutory damages calculated with the standard maximum $150,000 per file downloaded.

Of course the judge, Kimba Wood, of the US District Court of Southern New York instantly rejected the claim calling it “absurd.”

For reference, the entire world’s gross domestic product was between 50 and 60 trillion dollars.

Instead, the judge ruled that they could claim $150,000 per song (not download) which would yield a number closer to the billions of dollars range.
