The January 11, 2011 announcement of an iPhone and Verizon Wireless partnership was received with glee by consumers and investors alike. Today, Walmart announced its own partnership with Apple and Verizon Wireless. Starting on February 10, 2011, select Walmart stores (approximately 600) will offer the iPhone 4 on Verizon Wireless, with an initial price set at $199 for the 16GB model. The iPhone 4 will be a flagship product among Walmart's expanding smartphone model assortment, currently numbered at nearly 20. Walmart also plans to offer a myriad of iPhone accessories, including cases, car chargers, and hands-free accessories. This new partnership with Verizon Wireless further expands Walmart into the iPhone business, as select stores currently offer the iPhone 4 on AT&T.
