After writing about technology for the past 10 years, I’ve amassed quite the variety of USB powered devices. From various phones and tablets to Bluetooth speakers and GoPro cameras, USB is now the replacement for the ugly and incompatible wall wart. It’s great that now a single charger can power almost everything you own.
Still, most USB chargers only have one or two ports and rarely are they designed to charge all sorts of devices at a maximum speed. This is where devices such as the intelliARMOR 4-port USB charger comes in. It features technology to detect the maximum charging speed and adapt to charge each device at its own maximum speed. Unfortunately, this technology is hampered by the fact that it only supports 5 amps of max current. So if you have 4 USB 2.4 amp devices, you will only be able to charge at half the normal maximum speed.
Even with this issue, it usually doesn’t end up affecting what you need– most devices charge at 2.4 amps pretty quickly, and after fully charged, they go into a low current maintenance charge mode drawing under 0.5 amps. So you could have 2 slower charging devices one drawing at 1 amp such as a cell phone, and one pulling max current.
Overall, the intelliARMOR charger is one I will bring with me on trips. It can keep my GoPro, phone, tablet, and Bluetooth speaker charged up so rather than bringing four bricks along, I can bring just the intelliARMOR charger. It was even able to charge my Nexus 6P at 2.4 amps across a USB A to C cable. I would recommend it as the price is very reasonable and it’s light and portable. The only con of the charger is that it can’t support all 4 devices charging at 2.4 amps.
