OCTOVO Amazon Kindle 3 Vintage Leather Book Cover Review

Many cases out there for the Amazon Kindle love to imitate what actual books look like. Whether this is for marketing purposes or just to impress people, it really does make you feel like you're reading an old fashioned book even if an eReader is nestled within. That's what OCTOVO is going for with the Vintage Leather Book Cover. Did they succeed? Find out after the jump!

This is the least flexible leather I've ever felt on an Amazon Kindle 3 cover. It's the closest to a hardcover book cover I've seen. The thing doesn't budge. I'm not sure that it's a good thing for the Kindle screen which is notorious for cracking. The cover needs to have some sort of give to be able to protect that fragile screen. That's the reason you need to get an Amazon Kindle cover. You have to protect that screen. There's a small sliver of leather for a pocket within the cover that would do a better job but it doesn't seem to cover the entire screen. Most of it would probably be fine but honestly, I've never felt more unsafe with an Amazon Kindle cover.

That said, it's one of the most beautiful covers out there. The leather looks worn and feels really authentic. Most other covers are leather but you can tell it's not what you'd find when looking for stereotypical leather. This is the kind of leather you'd find that you'd expect. It's hard and kind of rough and has the feeling of wear. It's a period cover. It looks like the most old fashioned cover I've seen and I've seen a lot of Kindle covers.

The leather is both the best and worst part of this cover. I wouldn't feel safe protecting my cover with this cover but it's still beautiful and undoubtedly provides the style you look for in a cover. Because of the former issue, I'd still recommend Oberon Design over this as they are about the same price and that one is much thicker with more give. Nothing's getting through one of their covers. Nothing's getting through one of these either but I'm afraid pressure would just push another hard surface onto an already fragile cover.
