In a vote by the fans to determine the cover athlete for every version of NCAA Football 12, Alabama’s Mark Ingram came out on top. A former Heisman winner for the most historic program arguably in college football, Ingram certainly deserved it by leading the National Champions in rushing in 2009 and battling bravely through injuries in 2010 en route to a crushing defeat versus Auburn in their final regular season game, propelling the Tigers onto their first national championship in over 50 years behind Cam Newton. The debut trailer for NCAA 12 was also released today. Stay tuned for that at the end of the post.
Ingram beat out such luminaries as Auburn’s Nick Fairley, Oklahoma’s DeMarco Murray and Washington’s disappointment, Jake Locker. Through the Facebook NCAA Football 12 page, users had the ability to vote for whoever of the candidates they preferred. Ingram was the clear favorite from the beginning as Fairley’s demeanor on the field isn’t exactly the most beloved, Murray was solid but never spectacular and Locker was a huge disappointment in his senior season after being projected as the number one overall pick prior to the season.
Ingram's Pose for the Covers
Ingram, Fairley and Locker are projected to be first round picks in the 2011 NFL Draft with Fairley projected to go the highest. Locker is a fringe first rounder with the New England Patriots reportedly interested while Ingram is also linked to the Pats as well as the Dolphins or could just fall out of the first round altogether. Murray is projected as a later pick.
Here's the NCAA trailer initially promised in the title of this post. There isn't much known about the new features of the game so far, but at least look out for the improved visuals and presentation in the video.
