AT&T has just announced that it plans to increase the size and prices of data plans for smartphone and tablet users starting Sunday, January 22nd. So, customers will be paying more for their data plans but will also be getting higher data allotment.
The new smartphone plans are as follows:
- 300MB for $20,
- 3GB for $30, or
- 5GB (plus mobile hotspot and tethering) for $50
As for tablet plans, users can choose from either 3GB for $30 or 5GB for $50.
Please note that this is NOT going to impact current subscribers, meaning, if you are an existing customer, you will be grandfathered into your old plan. You will not have to change to the new data rate unless you want to. However, if you do decide to make the leap then be advised that you won’t be able to switch back to your old data plan.
In the end, this $5 hike across the board will lead to less money charged per megabyte albeit at a higher overall cost.
