Bungie, the creators of the hit series Marathon and the epic Halo franchise announced last year that they were moving on from Master Chief’s struggle against the Covenant and instead were partnering up with Activision to create something new. The only details given were that it would be releasing on both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. However, details beyond that have been virtually nil from Bungie or their new publisher.
Recently, Urk on the Bungie Weekly Update blog had this to say:
“Yup, truth told we have been less and less active on Bungie.net as of late. Part of that is owed to my aforementioned travel arrangements, but a significant amount of my time is also now being dedicated to other upcoming endeavors that won’t make a splash on the front page until Bungie Day closes in around us. Unfortunately, that means there are just too many balls in the air for me to juggle without letting a few fall to the ground.
More explicit details about those balls in the weeks ahead.”
Bungie Day, for those of you who don’t know is on July 7th (7/7), continuing their long time obsession with the number seven. Every year they plan for something exciting for the fan community to enjoy. The posting very much hints at the possibility that we’ll see a reveal of their latest work of art.
It’s also interesting to me that with E3 a week away, Bungie makes it clear that they will be revealing on their day, and not at the quintessential gaming media event. It seems that Bungie’s assertions that while they are partnering with Activision as a publisher, their control and ownership of this mysterious new IP is absolute.
