Sony has finally decided to address the PSN hacking issue with a press conference scheduled for 2 pm Japanese time and midnight EST. Fitting that nobody in the US, probably the most important and fickle marketplace, will get to see the press conference without staying up as Sony continues to dig its hole deeper and deeper. Hopefully this will alleviate some of the fears of the consumers.
Though that isn’t very likely. Kazuo Hirai is scheduled to speak regarding the network’s status for now and the future as well as what happened and led to the compromising hack. Sony will probably just end up shoving its foot even deeper down its throat. Until they readily admit that it was their fault and they actually decide to help their PSN customers, that’s all that’s going to happen.
There are going to be tons of lawsuits against Sony for their behavior regarding the credit card number hacks and their action or lack thereof. While there were untrue rumors of Sony having the opportunity to buy back the numbers and failing to do so, they still haven’t really done anything but try to cover up their own behinds, which hasn’t been going so well.
They’ve already angered and scared enough of their customer base that their stock has dropped and the notion of whether people would trust Sony and PlayStation enough in the next generation for them to compete has become legitimate.
Sony had better fix this or they risk tanking their whole brand. So far they’re doing as bad a job as possible.
