Daily Gaming Update: January 26th

jmaltz@pnosker.com January 27, 2011 0

The big word of today is golden, with one major and one minor release announcing that they have finally reached full completion. On top of that we've got the first developer diary from Operation Flashpoint and an announcement of some new peripherals to be released along with Gears Of War 3

During a wave of shooters which looks to be moving the genre towards a more arcadey direction, Operation Flashpoint keeps trucking along as the traditional ultra-realistic military game.  Codemasters has released the first developer diary detailing some of the features that they have included to increase the realism.

You'll be attacking Tajikistan in Q2 of 2011 on the Xbox 360 and PC.

[Operation Flashpoint:  Red River]-$TBA

Knights Contract, Namco Bandai's upcoming swords and sorcery RPG has officially gone gold.  The game will give players the chance to control a witch and an immortal executioner as the two work together to bring back civility to their land.  In the process, you'll be taking on some classic RPG action.

There's something to be said for a developer who can take some criticism and attempting to make their game better.  Given this, it's tough not to respect Dark Energy Digital, the developers behind Hydrophobia. After an initial launch which can best be described as tempid, they went back to the drawing board and rereleased their game in the form of Hydrophobia Pure; a game which still didn't fix some of the problems from the original.

Now the team is back at it again, announcing the launch of the Hydrophobia Listening Post, a website where you can rate every aspect of Hydrophobia Pure and help the developers decide in what direction to take the Hydrophobia universe.  You can access the listening post here or pick up the game on the XBLA.

Mad Catz announced today that they've entered into a partnership with Epic Games to create branded accessories for Gears of War 3.  Mad Catz will produce headphones, speciality controllers and other, yet unannounced peripherals as part of the agreement.

This isn't the first time that the two companies have teamed up to produce peripherals.  Mad Catz worked with Epic on the first two Gears games to make faceplates, console cases, and other products associated with the releases.

You'll be able to get your hands on these branded accessories come this winter when the third game in the Gears of War series hits store shelves.

Adventure games are a bit of a dying breed these days as first-person shooters take over the market and slower paced games fall by the wayside.  However, even the smallest genre gets a release every now and again and it seems that adventurers are having their day in the sun with the announcement that Baron Wittard: Nemesis of Ragnorak has gone gold.

You'll be able to begin exploring some of Baron Wittard's city come February 18th when the game launches online and in physical retailers.

[Baron Wittard: Nemesis of Ragnorak]-$29.99

Ever since the Kinect launched, Dance Central has reigned supreme as the Dance game of choice.  THQ is trying to steal some of the spotlight though with their upcoming dance title Dance Paradise.  In an effort to win over some fans THQ has released a new trailer today showing off some of the songs your avatar will be grooving to once the game launches.

Dance Paradise will give you a new way to dance the night away on February 22nd.

[Dance Paradise]-$49.96
